Rockets, Unicorns …and some magic sauce

The Branded Agency are a young, full service boutique design studio that specializes in creating disruptive consumer brands in the lifestyle, fashion, technology and consumer goods sectors.
Being experienced founders themselves, they are perfectly positioned to help small business grow from start-up to full scale, and provide rapid design solutions and useful economical shortcuts for their clients in the startup sphere.

From conversations with the young partners I learned they were avid travellers, bloggers and fashionistas, so I decided on an elegant, playful and editorial display typeface that could hold its own, stand out and complemented the curves of the logo.

THE BRIEF

Design an impactful, attractive and robust user experience… with the following constraints:

  • must fit existing Shopify template

  • use open source fonts + affordable iconography

  • use free illustration + images

  • must be complete in < 8 days

My role

I worked as Creative Director and Senior UI/UX Designer

 

LOOK & FEEL

The desired aesthetic should be visually engaging, with a clear messaging strategy that would help attract industry disruptors, and captivate startup businesses looking for a potential design partner. Plenty of white space was desirable, and a tongue in cheek approach encouraged - small details and quirky insights a founder or startup person could relate to.



the solution

I opted for a bright, clean base, added a slight brutalist edge via monochrome typography and rigid buttons, then softened page flow with rounded card edges and gentle box shadows. I introduced an abundance of vibrant imagery and chose accessible, trending brand colours to complement the existing royal blue.

I enhanced wayfinding via iconography in CTAs and section headers, and as correct hierarchy and messaging was crucial, opted for oversized yet elegant typefaces. Blocks were designed to be interchangeable on flexible templates. As content for some new sections had not been provided, latin copy (hipster ipsum) has been used in its stead.
